While planning other HVAC work, a homeowner wanted to add an ecobee Premium they had bought online. We checked the existing thermostat wiring and found no common (C) wire, plus a two-stage furnace the new thermostat had to stage correctly.
Rather than leave them with a dead screen, we ran a proper C-wire and configured staging for the furnace and AC, landing in the $125-$500 range depending on the wiring, so the smart features actually worked with the equipment.
